The Culling of Horses – Monday 8th January 2024

Currently, there are people arguing for an accurate count of the horses living free in Kusciosko area NSW. I think an accurate count is appropriate.

Aerial culling of horses is, in my opinion, wrong. Where culling is a necessity then only humane methods should be used. People with high powered rifles, in moving aircraft, shooting moving horses, is not going to be humane in my view.

Horses deserve much better than that.

Horses built nations for us and so, I feel, they should always be afforded respect and regard in return.

There are kinder ways of culling horses, vets know that, and when culling must occur, it shouldn’t be about being the cheapest method.

I do understand the harmful effects that can be caused to rivers and environment by horses in excessive numbers, but we ourselves have contaminated waterways and harmed other species and we don’t shoot anybody from a helicopter for that, as that

would be considered cruel and inhumane. It’s no less cruel doing that to any animal in my view.

I think most people would prefer humane, quiet and respectful methods be used.
