Orca continued – Friday 21st July 2023

If the group of Orca damaging boats could have been related to those orcas taken for marine parks, there would be the strongest reason of all for the behaviour. Having one of their family taken from them would be as devastating to them as it would be to us. And we need to consider that the family of the captured orca may have presumed their member would soon be returned to them and its also possible that the captured orca rationalised that doing what was asked of them would result in their release.
This is not a far fetched rationalisation for such mammals, if the roles were reversed and we had limited intel on the species taking a member of our family, its the best outcome we would hope for also.
If the orca family remained in the vicinity for a lengthy period following the capture, this would support. If the captured orca continued to do as asked yet displayed depression, this too would support. Its a very good thing we have ceased this practice.
