Neanderthals – Cannibalism? – 6.26pm Tuesday 25th November 2025

Recently, I noticed some articles relating to the finding of some Neanderthal remains, being women and children. Of note was the smaller than usual stature of the women and apart from their small children, they seemed to have been separated from their menfolk? Their bones indicated cannibalism.
Is it the belief that Neanderthals of another group had done this?
This seems peculiar to me, they were hunters in their time and we have seen indications of sentimentality.
My questions; did their deaths occur all together? A baby and young child and their mother/s. How many people did this to this small group? This would have been a very terrible and cruel event, of a degree that required a contempt, a total disregard and why would Neanderthals react like that to other Neanderthals? Children were surely precious? Moreso if your race is diminishing. The terror for the child would have surely been abhorrent to any Neanderthal? To my mind, this was an act of a group who viewed the victims as non-human.
Is there a possibility that a violent homo sapien group did this act of cannibalism to this group of Neanderthal women and children?
