Leonardo Da Vinci continued – 6th September 2024

His unfinished works. The reason I think this happened was that firstly, he required a lot of time to do a painting due to his absolute need for perfection. I also think that he likely didn’t work on multiple paintings at the same time. If interrupted and requested to commence another work whilst working on another, he likely found it difficult to recapture his motivation to return to the unfinished previous work if something a anew had caught his focus. Because he would take years to complete a work, and new people entered his life, he likely moved on if that makes sense.

I think he would have enjoyed his sketching moments because they were like his therapy, his art for himself type moments, not something he had to do due to paid work commitments.

He was a genius who unfortunately wasn’t a man of means. Which meant he was dictated to, had to deal with the envy of lesser skilled but wealthy individuals and the like. Had he been independent and influential in his own right, his art would have been all of his own choosing and likely many more amazing works than those that exist, and would have been completed before going on to the next great work, had he had the luxury to afford to do so.

That’s my thoughts about his unfinished works.
