Ancient Ivory Comb – Wednesday 6th December 2023
Something I noticed some days ago. I searched for the oldest known inscription, (on the internet). And the ancient Ivory Comb came up with it’s inscription.
Making that comb by hand today would be considered a very special item and the inscription we would put most likely, would be something sentimental and romantic.
Back then the inscription was in relation to removing bugs from one’s hair, even though hand making it would have been a very lengthy task.
But the sense I got from the inscription was that in the mind or minds of people back then, the comb would do its job because the inscription was there, and without the inscription, then it may well not. So it seemed that words were like blessings to the people back then, and so placing such words upon this comb and most likely other items too, was very important for the success of the item.
I thought that was most interesting about the people of old, if I interpreted correctly.
