There are several possible explanations for these early massive black holes to my mind.

When it comes to gas, I’m not convinced the force in a ‘gas cloud collapse’ is sufficient to create the black hole phenomena?

My theory in relation to the Universe being a form of black hole would or should show us an early inflow of massive agitated gas and early massive star explosion/s (galactic stars I believe I called them) creating early massive black holes. I note this theory is disregarded however.

Or the ‘universe’ is much older than current estimates.

Time will tell. My following comment is not in relation to any theories mentioned in this article, but I am noting a tendency in other articles and subjects where it appears that we are trying to make the foot fit the shoe, instead of the shoe fit the foot.
