Ships Colliding with Whales – Wednesday 28th February 2024

From what I understand it seems that the Right Whales are prone to colliding with ships moreso than other whales? Whether it’s due to the region being busier for shipping these whales travel in?

Thinking about it, it would seem that night would be the time these awful collisions would happen and if that’s correct would fitting some strong flashing/blinking lights to the underside of the ships teach the whales to steer away from them, once familiar.

Flashing so that they don’t mistake the light and be drawn to it. (If they are swimming up from depths at night for air a static light may cause confusion, flashing lights they would associate with us).

A thought and a suggestion that might help these and other whales avoid being struck by the unseen.
